Today we went to Disney’s Epcot park. This park was originally designed to show case futuristic living, although the theme changed before opening to show future things, and also be a showcase for international cultures. The park is split into two areas, the futuristic bit and the cultural stuff. Today we just spent all our time in the futuristic part.
The large sphere which is the iconic symbol of the park was were we headed first…Inside this sphere is a ride that takes you through a quick tour of history…before depositing you in a room full of various futuristic games/simulations. Joseph headed straight for the driving simulation, whilst Ems and Jules performed surgical operations using a simulator.
This park did not have all the thrills that Ems looks for in a park. The closest we got was the test track ride, which boasted to be the fastest Disney ride, but she was less than impressed…It featured various tests that we do on cars, hill climb, rumble tests, and finally a high speed test.
One theme running through the park is caring for the environment, but the test track ride was sponsored by GM, and the cars they had on show were the normal gas guzzlers, with get this a massive 4x4 hybrid that boasted a massive 22 MPG…
Disney has a research lab looking into growing various food crops out of soil, by just spraying water and nutrients directly on to the roots. They are also experimenting with creating tree variants of classic crops like tomatoes, as these plants have greater lifetime, and thus produce less disruption on the soil.
We finally visited the a ride that took you back to the land of the dinosaurs so we could see were fossil fuels came from. The animatronics in this were great, but again the environmental message was lame…
The weather was hot, so by 17:00 we were all done in..well except Jules who was keen to push on…But we headed home for a quick swim and a take away pizza, which took so long to arrive the kids fell asleep, leaving far too much pizza for Jules and myself to eat..
